A Mountain Sanctuary, Redefined

Highlands, NC is known for its sweeping mountain views, cool summer breezes, and a sense of retreat that draws families and visitors year after year. Designing a home here means honoring the rhythm of nature while creating interiors that feel timeless, restorative, and deeply personal. For this project, my vision was to craft a sanctuary where elegance and comfort coexist, reflecting both the beauty of the mountains and the lives lived within.

The Starting Point

In the Highlands, the mountains set the tone from the very beginning. The house had incredible potential, but it felt heavy, almost inward. I wanted to reframe the home so that every room echoed the beauty and rhythm of the outdoors—a retreat where layered textures and thoughtful details could create a balance of refinement and comfort.

The Client Connection

The Highlands clients spoke about wanting more than a mountain house—they wanted a sanctuary. A place where the pace naturally slowed, where they could unwind by a fire, or enjoy mornings over coffee while looking out to the trees. It was less about what the house should look like, and more about how they wanted to live in it. That distinction guided every choice.

The Inspiration

The Highlands project was inspired by the client’s love of nature and the mountain setting itself. The sweeping views and lush greenery informed a palette of organic textures and calming tones. Instead of competing with the landscape, the interiors were designed to frame it—soft fabrics, layered neutrals, and curated accents that brought the outside in while still feeling elevated and refined.

What Made It Unique

This retreat was unique in its intimacy. The clients allowed me to infuse their story into every detail, from custom linens embroidered with motifs they loved, to art chosen for the way it spoke to their journey. Even the smallest rooms became a canvas for beauty, reminding us that design at its best elevates the everyday moments.

Experience the Space

The Highlands home was about restoration. The clients wanted to arrive, exhale, and feel wrapped in comfort. Spaces were designed for quiet reading, intimate conversation, or a glass of wine at the end of the day. The entire house was layered with softness, warmth, and rhythm so it could truly feel like their own private corner of the world.

Behind the Scenes

For the Highlands home, every choice was guided by a desire to create a retreat that felt both timeless and personal. We sourced antiques and bespoke pieces from France, each one adding a layer of history and refinement to the mountain setting. These treasures were thoughtfully paired with custom furnishings and hand-finished details, creating a dialogue between Old World elegance and the relaxed spirit of the Highlands.

The result is a home where the luxury is found not only in the beauty of the materials, but in the curation itself—pieces that carry stories, craftsmanship that endures, and spaces that reflect the way our clients dream of living.

Bringing Timeless Design to Highlands, NC

Every Highlands home tells a story, and mine begins with listening to the people who live there. By blending mountain serenity with refined design, I help clients create sanctuaries that feel restorative, beautiful, and uniquely theirs.
